The beautiful Italian actress and latest Bond Girl, Caterina Murino, threatens to upstage the better-known Eva Green, as her flawless and exotic look causes male pulses to race around the world. The 32-year-old Italian plays Solange, gorgeous wife of bad guy Alex Dimitrios in the latest Bond film, Casino Royale, in her first major English-speaking role.

Born in Cagliari in Sardinia in 1974, fluent in 3 languages, excellent dancer, veteran of 15 films, tv, and theater, finalist in the Miss Italy competition, Caterina justifiably wants to be taken seriously as an actress and not just a pretty face. But it is Caterina’s sexy carpet orgasm that is likely to remain burned into the memories of the global male audience this time.

Even this sizzling performance was toned down from the original – the new Bond, Daniel Craig, coached her a bit:
“I tried to make [the] best orgasm and Daniel was always looking at me and saying “Caterina! Try to be better because it’s so fake,” she laughs. “[We were] playing all the time like this and we [started] to become close to each other.”

Her path from Sardinia, where she hoped to become a doctor, to landing a key role in Casino Royale, is a zig-zag of good and bad luck. After failing to get into medical school, she switched tack and began entering beauty competitions. ‘It was just a joke, really. I never expected to win anything.’ But she did, coming in 5^th in the Miss Italy competition in 1996, and from there getting work modeling cosmetics. She gave up modeling and moved to London. ‘It was here that I discovered theatre,’ she says. ‘I didn’t have any money, but I would just eat yogurt in order to get some money for tickets.’ She fell in love with it and in 1999 decided to move back to Rome and go to acting school. ‘Back in Rome I did some acting lessons and I realized I loved it more than anything else I had ever done before.’

After graduation, she got her first role “the nude one” but then also scored various other roles, including stage acting. ‘I was in Shakespeare, Pirandello and Agatha Christie.’ I was Vera Claythorne in Ten Little Indians in Milan. It was a huge success. I was murdered in the end, but only after I had been on stage for almost three hours.’

Caterina’s new role has caused agents to come calling. She is guarded, however. ‘Although I am very happy to go to California and talk to agents, Hollywood is just a dream for me. I like where I live at the moment – Paris – and I’m not planning to move anywhere. I’ve had far too many friends who went to Hollywood hoping to become movie stars and after six months they’re all working as waitresses.’ After Casino Royale, Cat will play a woman in 1940s Sicily who tries to become a priest and ends up fighting a lone battle against the Vatican.
‘Maybe it’s not so commercial, but I read the script and just fell in love with it. Because of my religious beliefs, you see. What I really want to do more than anything else is interesting work. Of course, all actors and actresses want to be popular, but when I come home every day, I want to be able to look in the mirror and feel that I have done something worthwhile.’
And that’s not all , she will be making six more films over the next 18 months – three in Italian and three in French.

Her role opposite James Bond was serendipitous as well “she missed the auditions while filming in Argentina, but when back in Rome doing still more film she was discovered by the Casino Royale casting director. Even then it was a lucky break” she had injured herself just before the audition and came with a broken rib to meet the casting personnel. “I was in hospital, completely under drugs, but I still went to the casting even though I couldn’t walk. That was unusual, because the Bond girl is always so full of energy! But Martin Campbell called me back to go to London and I got the role”.

Her one complaint about her steamy sex scene with Craig? “Unfortunately, it was very short, but very nice.” We assume she was referring to the length of the scene”
