Sex Video on Internet Lands Actress in Serious Trouble 
Dubbed Iran’s Paris Hilton, actress Zahra Amir Ebrahimi’s private sex life is causing a storm in Iran.  But, unlike Paris, who capitalized on the video and became a star, Zahra Amir Ebrahimi faces ruin, a public lashing and jail.

One of the best-known actresses in Iran, Ebrahimi plays virtuous and honorable characters and had been a shoo-in to receive many more top roles, yet the release of this sex tape has now ruined her career and she is being shunned by tv and film companies.  She has been dropped from her role in the top-rated soap, and has been forced to deny a rumor that she tried to commit suicide.  “I just want to tell my country’s people I am alive.

I am thinking about the strength of Iranian women and will defend the respect of the girls and women of my nation”, said Zahra.  The actress has denounced the events as an “immoral campaign” and spoke of “unjust and dishonourable accusations aimed at trampling over the honour of a woman“.The 20-minute sex tape allegedly was made on a camcorder privately with her boyfriend at the flat they shared two years ago.

Zahra denies being the woman in the grainy video, but if she is convicted then she faces the penalty for extramarital sex, which is public lashing and jail.  So far, the Iranian authorities have not named anyone in the case, but the high profile scandal has drawn Tehran’s hardline chief prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi into the case, ordering a special investigation. “A full report of the film has been sent to the state prosecutor… the results will be announced after the inquiry”, said Mr Seyed Nasser Seraj, a public relations official at the judiciary.

Her boyfriend, who has not been named by the authorities in Tehran, is suspected of distributing the material illegally. He has fled to Dubai and if caught and returned, faces three years in jail and a £6,000 fine for offending public morality.
Mr Mortazavi has ordered his arrest, according to his deputy, Mr Mahmoud Salarkia. “The prosecutor has ordered the arrest of the young man who fled the country and is now abroad,” he said.

“If the man is caught we will jail him for at least six months, up to a year,” a judiciary official added. Iranian police said the motive of Ebrahimi’s boyfriend for making the video public was unclear. Some have noted once again that the female faces public lashing, yet the equally-guilty male is being discussed in connection with the lesser crime of distribution.
