Keira Knightley has been crowned the greatest ever Hollywood starlet in the survey of film fans that conducted by Yahoo! Entertainment. The 21-year-old British actress beat off stiff competition from the movie legend Judy Garland and Scarlett Johansson to land the honor. The slim beauty Keira Knightley is proving that she is so much more than a Natalie Portman look-alike. Placing stock in this sexy Brit is one of the smartest things Hollywood has ever done.

Keira Knightley already has one Oscar nomination under her belt for her performance as Elizabeth Bennet in ‘Pride and Prejudice’. As Queen Amidala’s aide in Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, and her witty performance in Bend It Like Beckham and damsel with an attitude role in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl made people take notice. 

Jayne Cherrington, spokeswoman for the poll - which was conducted by Yahoo! and surveyed 1,600 movie goers - said, “A starlet is an actress who people instantly think of as being young, vivacious, stylish, popular and, most of all, talented. There are a fair few starlets jostling for space at the moment, but Keira is the one who embodies all of these attributes. Scarlett Johansson may be the talk of Tinseltown but it is Keira’s class that leads the pack.”

She also said, “it’s interesting to see Judy Garland fare so well. People still remember and love her as that fresh-faced girl from “The Wizard Of Oz,” clicking her heels together and wishing for home,”  Judy Garland, whose films include ‘The Wizard of Oz‘, ‘Meet Me In St Louis‘ and ‘A Star Is Born’, came in second, while “The Black Dahlia” star Scarlett Johansson, who is also 21, finished third.
