Marcia Cross Expecting Twin in April

Marcia CrossMarcia Cross, 44-year-old redhead “Desperate Housewives” actress, who underwent IVF (in-vitro fertilization) treatment to conceive, announced that she and her stockbroker husband Tom Mahoney are expecting twins in April. Cross confirmed Friday on Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show, “I was sort of blown away that I was having twins, so I just needed a minute to deal with it. So, we didn’t tell anybody. We just said I was pregnant. But as things happen in this town, it just got out, so everybody started congratulating me,” said Cross.

Marcia Cross and Tom Mahoney, a 48-year-year-old stockbroker, were married in June. Cross, who plays uptight Bree Van de Kamp on the ABC show, revealed no plans to involve her real-life pregnancy in the show’s plot, joking with DeGeneres, “I’ll hide behind things.”

Hard to understand how her present scenes would be handled simply by “hiding behind things” – for example, one scene from an upcoming episode features Bree (Marcia Cross) and her new boy-toy Orson (Kyle MacLachlan) in bed, with the underwear-clad housewife protesting her partner’s attempt to give her oral sex.

DeGeneres joined in the congratulations and offered Cross two gifts: a double stroller and, as a gag, a helmet she rigged with two bottles strapped on with attachable pacifiers. “It’s going to be hard to nurse both of them, so we want to help you out,”  DeGeneres quipped, before unveiling the helmet, as Cross laughed and accepted her gifts.

Cross is not the only celebrity in Hollywood expecting twins. Diddy and his long-time girlfriend Kim Porter recently revealed they too are expecting a double birth. Cross has previously spoken out about the issue of fertility in older woman. She said: “I don’t like the average woman being misled into thinking that fertility is something that goes on forever. When a woman gets older, they get a donor egg, which doesn’t make the baby any less beautiful or perfect. One’s own eggs only last so long, and sometimes at 43 or 44 you can have your own baby, but statistically it’s very difficult and expensive. You don’t want to wait that long.”
