Miss Chile, Hil Yesenia Hernandez Escobar, Crowned Miss Earth 2006

Miss Chile, Hil Yesenia Hernandez Escobar, 22-year-old, University student, was crowned as Miss Earth 2006 which the final coronation was held in an open-air affair at the Agrifina Circle in front of the National Museum Manila, Philippines on 26 November. “As Miss Earth moves forward, it continues to attract more and more countries that want to send participants to this competition. It is very satisfying to be able to attract so many young ladies who want to get involved in our environmental mission. It proves that the youth today want to make a difference,” said Carousel Productions president Ramon Monzon. As the new “Mother Nature’s ambassador“, Ms. Escobar who has the most beautiful eyes among other contestants, would be concentrate on the environmental global warming issue.

Chile was supposed to host the 2006 Miss Earth pageant, but because some requirements were not fulfilled by the organizers in Chile. “The Chilean organizers could not confirm the venue of the pageant, hotel accommodations for the participants and the television station that would broadcast the event.” explained Carousel project director Peachy Veneracion.
Until June, Chile was still listed as host. But by September, when basic requirements remained unmet, Carousel officials decided to pull the pageant out of the deal and back to the Philippines, where it had been staged for the last five years.
Miss Earth is an annual international beauty pageant founded in the year 2001 by Carousel Productions Inc. of the Philippines. In number of candidates, Miss Earth is ranked No. 3 among international beauty pageants, here is the complete rank:
