Miss USA, Tara Conner Gets Second Chance
Category: Beauty, Career, Celebrity News, Fashion, Her Diary, LifestyleDonald Trump, imprinted on our collective consciousness for pronouncing, “You’re Fired!”, surprised everyone except perhaps himself when he decided to forego the firing and give Tara Conner a second chance at being Miss USA. Reports of misbehavior, including under-age drinking and partying with various men at New York nightclubs began surfacing last week, along with rumors of drug use and a drug test, leading the Miss Universe organization to discuss possibly removing Tara Conner in favor of the runner-up, Tamiko Nash. Many websites printed the firing as fact after Tara was asked to move out of the Miss USA apartment. But, such was not to be – a dramatic Tuesday press conference by The Donald showed he either had a “heart of gold”, as Tara proclaimed, or an extremely astute judgment of the best way to capitalize on the media attention.
“I’ve always been a believer in second chances. Tara is a good person. Tara has tried hard.
Tara is going to be given a second chance,” said Mr Trump, Tara sitting beside him with tears in her eyes and on her cheeks at the 19 December press conference. “Tara got caught up in the whirlwind of New York. She made some very, very bad choices. She admits that she made mistakes. She’s agreed to go into rehab,” Trump said after admitting he had planned to fire Conner right up until he spoke to her just before the press conference. “She knows that if she makes even the slightest mistake from here on, she will be immediately replaced.” Trump finalized, “I think Tara is going to be the great comeback kid.”
In a tear-choked voice, Tara Conner said, “Walking in this morning, in no way did I think it would be possible for a second chance. I’ve had a very big blessing bestowed upon me, you’ll never know how much I appreciate Mr. Trump for saving me on this one,” she said. “He could have said ‘You’re Fired” he’s a very, very compassionate person.” Turning to Trump, she added, “You’ll never know what this means to me, and I swear I will not let you down.”
The small-town girl from Kentucky gushed about The Donald’s “blessed soul” and began denying that she was an alcoholic. “Anything with a drug issue, I don’t have a comment on anything like that,” she told reporters. “I wouldn’t say I’m an alcoholic. I think that’s pushing the envelope just a little bit … My personal demons are my personal demons.” Trump then had the woman from the Miss Universe Organization yank Conner’s microphone away and finish speaking on her behalf.
In a statement after the news conference, Mr Trump said Ms Conner’s duties would be “limited as she receives the help she needs during this personal time”. The former Miss Kentucky, who turned 21 on Monday, has been competing in pageants since age 4. After winning the Miss USA title in April, she finished fourth in the Miss Universe pageant in July. The Miss Universe Organization, producers of the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA competitions, is a partnership between Trump and NBC.

[...] Rosie O’Donnell has attacked Donald Trump on her tv show, “The View“, branding him a “snake-oil salesman” and calling his staging of a press conference, in which he decided to allow Miss USA, Tara Conner to keep her crown, a publicity stunt. Trump had allowed Conner to keep her title Tuesday following a wave of reports and criticism over her engagement in underage drinking and partying. [...]

[...] One day after Donald Trump gave Tara Conner a second chance, and said that he believes everyone deserves a second chance, he declined any second chance to Katie Rees, Miss Nevada 2007. Unlike Tara Conner, Ms Rees’ sins were graphic and inescapable – photos of her baring her bottom and her breasts, simulating oral sex with a male and females, and kissing other women, were posted to the website Canada.com. However, also unlike the sins of Tara Conner, those of Katie Rees occurred years ago, and long before she held any title. [...]
