Vanessa Milde, 15-year-old schoolgirl model from Finesse Model Agency didn’t falter and continued to pose and finish her turn on the catwalk when Milde’s tights fell down as she was modelling for the label Davis Eyes at Australian Fashion Week. It was a model’s worst nightmare but Adelaide model Vanessa Milde dealt with her “Jennifer Hawkins moment” like a true professional. Vanessa Milde has become an overnight sensation, she started modelling in May and last month flew to New York and was signed to the elite IMG Models.

Vanessa Milde, the star of this Melbourne Fashion Week event opened most parades in the three-day festival was yesterday fielding back-to-back media interviews and taking the catwalk wardrobe mishap all in her long stride. Wardrobe malfunctions are common in fashion parades. She dispelled reports her tights slid down because her legs were too thin, saying: “The tights were just too short. I knew it was happening but there wasn’t anything I could do, so I just kept walking. It was a bit of a Jennifer Hawkins moment,” Milde said. 

Milde’s agent Brigette Mitchell said she was extremely proud of her. ”She handled it with grace. Vanessa wasn’t too small, the stockings were. The feet had been cut off and they were so small that they couldn’t fully be pulled up on to her hip,” she said. “Everyone from overseas was saying they were really proud of her (how she handled it) and these things happen.”
Simon Lock, managing director of IMG Fashion Asia Pacific, which owns and operates Australian Fashion Week, praised the teenager, “It is a good thing it is out of the way, it is every model’s nightmare.”

Former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins was famously left with only her underwear on when she lost her dress at a Westfield appearance in 2004 and supermodel Naomi Campbell toppled off platforms during a Vivienne Westwood parade in 1993.

Brisbane based fashion designer, Gail Reid was most impressive with her Gail Sorronda label. She is not only a fashion designer but a model and stylist as well. She says that she was amazed to meet Balenciaga designer Nicholas Ghesquiere and Givenchy designer Ricardo Tisci and within 24 hours of her return to Australia, she showed her designs in the Brisbane Fashion Festival before showing them one week later in Melbourne.
Rebecca Hsu, Group Manager of Far Eastern Department Store informed that she was planning to buy Reid’s collections. Next week she is scheduled to showcase her collections in London Fashion Week.
