Paris Hilton

The hotel heiress Paris Hilton was released from an L.A. jail after serving three weeks for violating probation in a drunken-driving case. She emerged from the Century Regional Detention Facility in suburban Lynwood, Calif., this morning at about 12:15 local time. Her incarceration set off a media frenzy and public debate about celebrity justice.

The twenty-six-year-old “Simple Life” star has served almost 23 days in detention, counting one day of home confinement, which is longer than most inmates in the overcrowded and chaotic Los Angeles jails. She was originally sentenced to 45 days for violating her probation by driving on a suspended license.

Paris was arrested in February when she was found driving on a suspended license after she was charged with drink driving last September.
