“I’m glad to see more people participating in these pageants and many countries giving more opportunities to transsexuals, because in the past many countries, including Thailand discriminated against us. But this place has opened our chances and allowed the world to see us,” the winner of Miss International Queen, Tanyarat Jirapatpakon said. The 21-year-old Thai business student Tanyarat Jirapatpakon was very happy when she crowned as a new Miss International Queen 2007.

“I feel excited and so happy. Everybody enjoyed the contest and I didn’t expect anything like this,” said Tanyarat.
Known in Thailand as “kathoey,” or the third gender, Thai transsexuals have slowly been leaving cabarets for mainstream success in music and other endeavours, helped in part by the popularity of beauty contests.

The 4th annual transsexual beauty pageant was produced and organized by Tiffany’s Show Pattaya Co., Ltd., the world’s largest transvestite/transgender cabaret show and supported by Tourism Authority of Thailand. The contestants, shortlisted from more than 100 hopefuls, came from 15 countries.
