Gillian Chung sorry for the racy photos scandal

“I admit I was very naive, very silly in the past, but now I’ve grown up,” Gillian Chung said without directly commenting on the photos. “As for the impact that the incident has had brought to the society, I deeply apologize.” Chung, a member of the popular female duo Twins, did not take any questions from over 100 reporters packed in a Chinese restaurant where she had a Lunar New Year gathering with her fans.

“I want to thank my company, family and friends for their concern,” she said in her first public comments since the nude images trickled onto the Internet a fortnight ago. The photographs, which appear to show Chung naked in bed with male star Edison Chen, and suggestive images purportedly of around half a dozen other celebrities, including actress Cecilia Cheung, were recently posted online, provoking blanket tabloid coverage in the celebrity-mad former British colony.

The scandal, which involved several local celebrities, have dominated Hong Kong headlines in the past two weeks. Other nude photos involved actress Cecilia Cheung and five other females.

Chung’s management company, Emperor Entertainment Group, said Monday it would not comment on the photos again.  Emperor Entertainment Group had initially said in a statement that the photographs were digitally altered fakes.

Last week, Hong Kong police said officers had found the source of the photos, seizing over 1,300 obscene pictures involving six females. A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the case.

Actor Edison Chen, who reportedly left Hong Kong soon after the photos were leaked, also apologized in a video statement last week. He urged the public to delete and not to forward the photos.

A hub for the Chinese-language movie and music industries, Hong Kong is known for its vibrant celebrity culture. Voyeurism in connection with local stars has stirred controversy in the past.

In year 2006, Gillian Chung semi-nude photos were published by Easyfinder, a Hong Kong weekly magazine weekly magazine, a magazine cover photo showing Gillian Chung changing after a concert in Genting Malaysia.
