How to Look Years Younger

Most of us, after a “certain age”, begin to wish we could regain the looks we had when younger. We notice lines, sags, and other things we never had in the past and we can’t figure out precisely when we got them. We being to wear sunscreen to protect our skin and advise our youngers to do the same - and just like we did, the young ones blithely ignore this advice also.

We begin to read articles like this one which inform us that freckles and blotches make us look older (according to a recent study from the University of Gottingen in Germany. Testers estimated that people whose uneven pigmentation was digitally removed from photos were five years younger than their age. When wrinkles were also erased, they guessed a 15-year age drop)

Here are some easy ways to reverse our aging appearance:

Reveal fresh skin: Wash your face for a full 60 seconds to loosen dirt, oil and makeup, then gently apply a microdermabrasion cream. It works like a peel to slough off surface cells and reveal newer, younger-looking skin beneath. Also try this - soak a washcloth in whole milk and drape it over your face. The lactic acid in the milk gently exfoliates.

Even out your skin tone: Evolution and Human Behavior published a study in which blotchy pigmentation could add up to 12 years to your perceived age. So apply tinted moisturizer, which hides imperfections but still appears natural. Apply your regular moisturizer first so the tint won’t seep into dry spots, resulting in splotches.

Cover spots: To hide imperfections, choose a thick stick concealer one shade lighter than your foundation. For a natural effect, dab it on with a makeup brush, then top it with a light dusting of translucent powder to keep it in place.

Go for grapefruit: The Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago published a study in which men guessed women’s ages while smelling three scents and judged women to be nearly six years younger when wearing a perfume with notes of pink grapefruit.
